Hearts' Nieuwenhof makes loan move

Hearts midfielder Calem Nieuwenhof has returned to Australia to join Perth Glory on loan for the upcoming season.

The 25-year-old joined the Jambos from Western Sydney Wanderers on a four-year deal in 2023.

After a promising first season, the Australian has been badly hindered by injuries over the past two years and has not played since last July.

"Calem Nieuwenhof has completed a loan move to Perth Glory," said Hearts. "He'll spend the 2026/27 campaign at the A-League side. Wishing you all the best down under, Calem."

Stewart joins West Brom as Falkirk receive club-record fee

West Brom have signed Barney Stewart from Falkirk, with the Scottish side receiving a club-record fee with 'the potential for significant add-ons'.

He has signed a four-year deal at The Hawthorns and continues a remarkable rise.

Stewart was playing university football for Heriot-Watt in 2024 before joining Falkirk. He returned to the university on loan until January 2025, as well as a temporary spell at Dumfermline.

He only made his Falkirk debut in January 2026, going on to finish as the club's top scorer (12) in all competitions as they finished sixth in the Scottish Premiership after a 15-year absence.

Stewart told WBA TV: I had a great chat with the manager James Morrison. He won loads of caps for Scotland and hes got loads of contacts up there, so he knows lots about me.

Im so excited by the challenge of playing in the Championship. I love the frequency of the games and its one of the best leagues in the world to watch. To be a part of the division will be incredible.

I saw a stat the other day which said that only one of my goals was scored when I had a touch before the finish, which suggests theres plenty of first-time finishes. I come to life around the box and thats my speciality.

Im very confident that I can score the goals here at the Albion, just like I did last year for Dunfermline and Falkirk. Im a confident person and Ill always back myself. Id absolutely love to find the same form as last year, starting in pre-season.

Real Madrid's shift in transfer strategy under Jose

Icon

Jose Mourinho has made a fast start in the transfer window at Real Madrid despite the World Cup being under way with the free transfer of Bernardo Silva following hot on the heels of Marc Cucurella's 51.8m signing from Chelsea.

Real Madrid's newly re-elected president Florentino Perez has also lined up the 17m signing of right-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter and the free transfer of centre-back Ibrahima Konate who is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the month.

The signings of Silva, 31, Cucurella, 27, Dumfries, 30, and Konate, 27, show there has been a clear change of transfer strategy at Real Madrid. The focus has shifted from young players with promise to experienced players who are ready to be thrown straight in.

Cucurella, for instance, is the first signing over 25 to have arrived at Real Madrid for a transfer fee of more than 2m since the summer of 2019, when Eden Hazard was signed from Chelsea in a deal worth well in excess of 100m.

Real Madrid have brought in experienced players in the intervening period but only on free transfers. Silva and Konate are just the latest following on from Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Kylian Mbappe and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Last summer the average age of Real Madrid's signings - Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras, Franco Mastantuono and Trent Alexander-Arnold - was just over 21 years old compared to nearly 29 years old in this window so far.

Mourinho has often relied more on tried-and-tested players during his career, but because of the pressure everyone at Real Madrid is under after failing to win LaLiga or the Champions League for the past two seasons, experience is required more than ever.

Real Madrid's business is expected to continue beyond the four signings already secured. Perez made big promises during his re-election campaign about making a mega-signing this summer, and none of the players they have signed match that description.

Tottenham's Vuskovic dilemma - and how Brighton are involved

Icon

Latest from Your Site News' Michael Bridge and Elliot Cook:

Tottenham have a dilemma on their hands with Luka Vuskovic after rejecting two offers from Brighton for the teenage centre-back.

The 19-year-old, who established himself as one of Europes best young defenders on loan at Hamburg, wants to be a regular starter now but is not interested in another temporary move.

Brightons latest offer was for 35m and Your Site News understands that they will not go back in with a fresh proposal immediately despite agreeing a deal to sell central defender Jan Paul van Hecke to Spurs for 52m on Tuesday.

Vuskovics prospects of being a first-team regular at Spurs next season appear slim now Van Hecke is set to join Marcos Senesi as Spurs second centre-back signing this summer. If Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero stay, Vuskovic will realistically be Spurs fifth choice.

Romero's future is uncertain, just as it was last summer before he signed a new deal, but it remains to be seen if there are any clubs that would pay enough to convince Spurs to sell.

There is a real feeling at Spurs that Vuskovic could become one of the best defenders in the world but that he is not quite ready to make that step to being a regular starter in the Premier League.

There are parallels to the situation Arsenal had with William Saliba. The France international had three loans in Ligue 1 before being fully integrated into the first-team picture and becoming one of the Premier Leagues best defenders.

Spurs have plans to spend big this summer and, naturally, that will lead to player sales. However, in an ideal world they will raise funds elsewhere on players who are not part of Roberto De Zerbis future plans.

Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic says it is important Vuskovic finds a club where he will play regularly. Spurs agree but can only offer a loan. Brighton can give the teenager what he wants but are unwilling to overpay. This one could rumble on.

Rhl leaves Rangers for RB Salzburg

The decision has been made 'by mutual agreement', Rangers say. Rohl replaced Russell Martin in October as the club finished third in the Scottish Premiership.

"He and his staff put in a significant amount of hard work during his time in charge, which we are greatly appreciative of. We wish them the best of luck moving forward.

The club are now finalising the deal for Derek McInnes to become their new head coach.

As reported, he has agreed a deal to join on a three-year contract. Rangers and Hearts now working to finalise that move.
